JAVATIC CAFE
A tropical industrial rooftop café in South Jakarta designed as a Gen Z social hub for coffee, cigarettes, and collective sing-along moments. Sitting on a compact 200 m² site above a minimarket, the layout dedicates 65% of its area to open-air seating with tiered benches and a small stage, while the indoor café along the glass façade maintains visual connection with the outdoor terrace. Service and circulation zones are neatly placed at the rear to keep the space open, efficient, and visible from the main road.
A Social Rooftop for the Urban Generation
The process began with understanding structural limits and visibility from the street, followed by zoning to separate public, semi-public, and service areas efficiently. The stepped outdoor seating doubles as a stage, framed by a lightweight steel canopy for shade and openness. Exposed concrete, steel, and warm wood finishes blend tropical comfort with industrial honesty, supported by ambient lighting that transitions seamlessly from day to night.
